In a world where signs mask reality, it is easy for one to fall into the jaws of tends, peer pressure, etc. This is because people are so easily attracted towards things that are given importance. Advertising is one the main things that tends to cause this situation. This is because of the fact that it has promotional strategies attached to it that make it successful. In addition to this it is the imaging involved in the process that enhances the process. The images created for smoking for instance are brilliantly created and associated with manliness and bravery. The imaging seen in magazines tends to have similar impact on creating a social status. It has been studied and observed that the manner in which people are pulled into habits like smoking has a lot to do with what they see; the images before them develop their psychology, and this is what makes one conscious or falsely conscious of themselves and the things they do. Smoking (believed to be a social status symbol) is one of the habits formed today that is directly caused by external forces. It must be also noted that much of the habits that people get into are because of external influences rather than their own free will. People Adopt Smoking Habits At A Young Age Which Becomes A Permanent One Apparently, habits such as smoking begin with the urge to create a status for one’s self. People, especially when they are young want to grow up and be mature quickly. Through advertising, smoking is observed to be a manly and mature act. Therefore, younger people admire of envy elders with cigarettes in their hands. They want to be just like them, and fail to see what it really takes to be a grown up. When people are younger, also want to impress others through their actions. This is why they want to dress up well or develop an outlook that is eye-catching or one that will seem to be in sync with adulthood. Smoking in contemporary times is one of these actions through which youngsters try and prove themselves. The social status that one tries to develop of course turns out to be something quite different with the passage of time. The social status so developed results in one often becoming addicted. This addiction is such that one cannot get a day started without a cigarette, and cannot work properly without nicotine flowing the blood stream. People have ruined their lives because of this addiction that had started with trying to gain a social status. This is perhaps a price to pay, and indeed a severe one because if one cannot give up the need for social status or addiction, there are severe repercussions that could result. Diseases such as cancer and other lung disorders could result. Indeed, 87% lung cancers are caused by smoking. This is a very high percentage for lung cancer as a cause. However, there are few that really pay attention to the warning signs. They are many signs before one reaches this stage in most cases, and so one must take heed and reduce their ego when in need of social status. Clearly then, it can be observed that smoking is actually a habit that develops through the need for social status, but may quickly turn into addiction. This does not end here, as one could even end up in a severer condition with lung cancer of any other lung disorder. PLS DO COMMENT AND SHARE YOUR VIEWS
